Northwestern Benefit Associates Earn Industry Designations

Achieving professional designations takes 100% dedication to the group insurance industry, a real commitment to long-term planning and a desire to be seen as “the best” in his/her industry.

What is a professional designation in our industry?
Professional designations can require passing anywhere from 3 to 8 exams before the designation is awarded; therefore, it takes consistent dedication, focus and just plain hard work.

Please join me in congratulating our recent staff achievements in professional designations:

Cheri Mays – Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS)*
Julie Grier – Registered Health Underwriter and Registered Employee Benefits Consultant(RHU®, REBC®)**
Lindy Harrison – Registered Health Underwriter (RHU®)***
Juanese Williams – Registered Health Underwriter (RHU®)***

*CEBS- is the premier designation in total compensation, considered the standard of excellence in the industry. CEBS features a unique partnership with two leading academic institutions. In the U.S., CEBS is co-sponsored by the International Foundation and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Completion of eight exams is required to receive the CEBS professional designation. The courses cover group health benefits, retirement plans and compensation management. Candidates must complete six required courses and two of five elective courses.

**REBC®- is the American College designation for excellence in employee benefits. The courses to meet the designation are primarily pensions and retirement plan funding, installation and administration, in addition to group medical plans, long-term care, executive compensation and personnel management. The REBC® designation can be earned by completing 3 required exams, and 2 elective exams.

***RHU®- is the premier credential in the health insurance market. RHU® is awarded by The American College, which is a non-profit educational institution with the highest level of academic accreditation dedicated to leadership in innovative training and development for financial services professionals. Courses for this designation include: Comprehensive information available on group insurance benefits and health insurance for individuals and families. Courses also include the most current information on major benefit protection laws, including COBRA, ERISA, and HIPAA. Candidates must complete 3 exams to be credentialed for the RHU®.
